ART PROPOSAL DELAYED

The Attorney-General's Department is proceeding with implementation planning for the Administrative Review Tribunal ('ART') through the ART Implementation Working Group.

The Working Group consists of senior representatives from the portfolio departments and agencies who will be responsible for funding the various divisions of the ART, and from the current merits tribunals which will be amalgamated to form the new Tribunal.

The Department has issued drafting instructions to the Office of Parliamentary Counsel, and to all portfolio departments. The current expected commencement date for the ART has been deferred from 1 July 2000 until February 2001.
