Auckland, Richard --- "The Law and Freedom of the Media" [1999] UTSLawRw 9; (1999) 1 University of Technology Sydney Law Review 58

Foreword

It gives me great pleasure to introduce the first volume of the UTS Law Review: a special issue entitled The Courts and the Media. The papers in this volume are drawn from a conference convened at our Law School in November 1998 that brought together senior members of the judiciary, executive government, leading scholars, and practitioners in the field of media law. The relationship between the courts and the media is a significant topic and this volume will do much to enhance and further debate.

The publication of the first volume of the UTS Law Review marks a coming of age for the Faculty of Law. The University of Technology, Sydney is the home of the leading journalism school in the country and the Faculty of Law now has a developing profile as a centre for research and scholarship in communications law. The next volume of the Review will comprise papers drawn from the upcoming Second Conference of the Australasian Legal Information Institute, the leading research centre of law and information technology in Australia.
