The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory enacts as follows:
This Act may be cited as the Criminal Code Amendment (Penalties for Certain Assaults) Act 2010.
This Act amends the Criminal Code.
3 Amendment of section 188 (Common assault)
Section 188(2)
omit
or, upon being found guilty summarily, to imprisonment for 2 years
4 Amendment of section 189A (Assaults on police)
(1) Section 189A(1)
omit
or, upon being found guilty summarily, to imprisonment for 2 years
(2) Section 189A(2)(a)

or, upon being found guilty summarily, to imprisonment for 3 years

446 Application of Code to offences before commencement
Despite the commencement of the Criminal Code Amendment (Penalties for Certain Assaults) Act 2010, sections 188 and 189A, as in force immediately before the commencement, continue to apply in relation to offences mentioned in those sections that were committed before the commencement.
