to amend the Debits Tax Act

The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory enacts as follows:


1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Debits Tax Amendment Act 2004.

2. Commencement
This Act comes into operation on 1 July 2005.

3. Principal Act
The Debits Tax Act is in this Act referred to as the Principal Act.

4. Imposition of tax
Section 6 of the Principal Act is amended –

(a) by omitting from subsection (1)(a) and (b) "made" and substituting "made before 1 July 2005"; and

(b) by omitting from subsection (1)(c) "made" (first reference) and substituting "made before 1 July 2005".

5. Schedule 2
Schedule 2 to the Principal Act is amended by inserting in numerical order the following:
"Section 11(4)(a)'account''account before 1 July 2005'
Section 11(4)(b)'30 days''30 days but before 1 July 2005'
Section 12(1)'any month''any month before 1 July 2005'
Section 56'subsequent year''subsequent year that commences before 1 July 2005' ".
