AN ACT

to amend the Liquor Act

The Legislative Assembly of the Northern Territory enacts as follows:

1. Short title
This Act may be cited as the Liquor Amendment Act (No. 3) 2003.

2. Commencement
This Act comes into operation on the date fixed by the Administrator by notice in the Gazette.

3. Objections to application for licence
Section 47F of the Liquor Act is amended –

(a) by omitting subsection (2) and substituting the following:

"(2) An objection may only be made on the ground that the grant of the licence may or will adversely affect –

(a) the amenity of the neighbourhood where the premises the subject of the application are or will be located; or

(b) health, education, safety or social conditions in the community.";

(b) by omitting from subsection (3) "under subsection (1)" and substituting "on the ground specified in subsection (2)(a)"; and

"(3A) Any person, organisation or group may make an objection on a ground specified in subsection (2)(b).".
