The Parliament of South Australia enacts as follows:

Part 1—Preliminary

1—Short title

This Act may be cited as the Emergency Management (Australian Sign Language Interpreter) Amendment Act 2015.

2—Amendment provisions

In this Act, a provision under a heading referring to the amendment of a specified Act amends the Act so specified.

Part 2—Amendment of Emergency Management Act 2004

3—Amendment of section 9

Section 9(1)—after paragraph (g) insert:

(ga) to ensure that the State Emergency Management Plan provides that, for the benefit of the South Australian deaf community, during a television broadcast of public information and warnings made under the State Emergency Management Plan, an accredited Australian Sign Language Interpreter must be present to interpret the verbal content of the information and warnings;

Part 3—Transitional provision

SEMC must, as soon as reasonably practicable after the commencement of the Emergency Management (Australian Sign Language Interpreter) Amendment Act 2015


, amend the State Emergency Management Plan to provide that, for the benefit of the South Australian deaf community, during a television broadcast of public information and warnings made under the State Emergency Management Plan, an accredited Australian Sign Language interpreter must be present to interpret the verbal content of the information and warnings.
