THREATENED SPECIES PROTECTION AMENDMENT BILL 2017 BILL 67 OF 2017

                                 CLAUSE NOTES

              Threatened Species Protection Amendment Bill 2017

Clause 1   Short title

Clause 2   Commencement
           The Act will commence on a day to be proclaimed.

Clause 3   Principal Act
           The Principal Act is the Threatened Species Protection Act 1995.

Clause 4   Section 51 amended (Offences relating to listed taxa)
           Increases the penalty for offences relating to listed taxa to a fine not exceeding
           629 penalty units or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 12 months, or both;
           and a further fine not exceeding 126 penalty units for each day an offence
           continues after conviction.

Clause 5   Section 61 amended (Regulations)
           Provides for consistency by increasing the maximum penalties that can apply
           under the associated Threatened Species Regulations to be the same as those
           outlined in Clause 4.

Clause 6   Repeal of the Act
           This Act is repealed on the three hundred and sixty fifth day from the day on
           which it commences.
