WATER MANAGEMENT (CONSEQUENTIAL AND TRANSITIONAL PROVISIONS) BILL 2015 BILL 34 OF 2015

                                       FACT SHEET

Water Management Amendment (Consequential and Transitional Provisions)
                               Bill 2015

The purpose of the Water Management Amendment (Consequential and Transitional Provisions)
Bill 2015 is to make amendments to other Tasmanian legislation and put in place transitional
and savings arrangements as a consequence of the Water Management Amendment (Dam
Works) Bill 2015.

The Water Management Amendment (Consequential and Transitional Provisions) Bill 2015
provides for a range of savings and transitional measures for current permits and for dam
permit applications currently under consideration and amends the Water Management Act
1999 accordingly.

The Bill also includes minor consequential amendments to the Farm Water Development Act
1985, Forest Practices Regulations 2007, Gas Act 2000, Gas Pipelines Act 2000, Inland Fisheries
Act 1995, Irrigation Company Act 2011, Meander Dam Project Act 2003, Threatened Species
Protection Act 1995 and the Wildlife (General) Regulations 2010.

Both this Bill and the Water Management Amendment (Dam Works) Bill 2015 are aimed at
simplifying and further streamlining the dam works approval process, cutting red tape and
providing a quicker, cheaper and more efficient application pathway for proponents wishing to
obtain dam works permits.
