VEHICLE AND TRAFFIC (DRIVER LICENSING AND VEHICLE REGISTRATION) AMENDMENT (LEARNER MOTOR CYCLE LICENCE) REGULATIONS 2006 (S.R. 2006, NO. 63) - REG 4

Regulation 11 amended (Eligibility)

Regulation 11 of the Principal Regulations is amended as follows:
(a) by omitting paragraph (a) from subregulation (2) and substituting the following paragraph:
(a) for a motor cycle licence –
(i) if the applicant is the holder of a learner motor cycle licence, the applicant must hold that licence for a continuous period of at least 6 months, without a period of suspension, immediately before applying for a provisional motor cycle licence; and
(ii) if the Registrar requires, the applicant must have attended and successfully completed a training course approved by the Registrar in the operation and driving of motor cycles;
(b) by inserting the following subregulation after subregulation (2) :
(2A)  Subregulation (2)(a)(i) does not apply to an applicant for a full motor cycle licence or provisional motor cycle licence if he or she –
(a) held a learner motor cycle licence at any time within the 28-day period immediately before 1 July 2006; and
(b) obtains his or her full motor cycle licence or provisional motor cycle licence on or before 31 December 2006.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the regulation)

These regulations amend the Vehicle and Traffic (Driver Licensing and Vehicle Registration) Regulations 2000 by specifying that the holder of a learner motor cycle licence must hold that licence for 6 months before applying for a provisional motor cycle licence.
