ELECTION OF REPRESENTATIVES IN GENERAL SYNOD 1994 (WANGARATTA DIOCESE)

BE it enacted by the Bishop the Clergy and the Laity of the Church of England in Australia within the Diocese of Wangaratta duly met in Synod according to law as follows:-

Repeal

1. Act No. 2, 1887 of the Diocese of Melbourne entitled "An Act to provide for the Election of Representatives in the General Synod" shall be and is hereby repealed so far as it applies to the Diocese of Wangaratta.



Number to
be elected

2. There shall be elected in the first session of every Synod so many Persons to be the clerical and lay representatives of the Diocese of Wangaratta in the General Synod of the Dioceses in Australia and Tasmania as the Diocese is entitled to elect or appoint under the provisions of the Constitution of the said General Synod.

3. Every clerical representative shall be a Clerk of not less than five years standing duly licensed to officiate in the Diocese.

4. Every lay representative shall be a layman not under the age of eighteen years and a Communicant.



Voting by orders

5. At the election of such representatives only Clergy members of this Synod shall vote for the election of Clerical Representatives and only lay members of the Synod for the election of Lay Representatives.



Supplemental list

6. There shall be elected at the same time and in like manner a similar number of clerical and lay persons having the same qualifications to be placed on a supplemental list in order of their election.



Vacancies
to be filled

7. The Bishop in Council shall from such supplemental list in the order in which the names appear thereof fill vacancies occasioned by the inability to attend of any of the clerical or lay representatives primarily elected.



When Bishop
in Council may appoint

8. In the event of the required number of clerical or lay representatives elected or appointed under the provisions of the foregoing sections being unable to attend any session of the General Synod the Bishop in Council may fill up the required number be appointing as such representative or representatives any duly qualified clerical or lay person or persons.
