(1) The Regulator or an authorised officer may give a verbal direction to a registered social service provider to immediately cease carrying on a specified activity if the Regulator or authorised officer reasonably believes—
(a) that the matters specified in section 143 are satisfied; and
(b) it is necessary in the circumstances to give the direction.
(2) As soon as practicable after giving a direction under subsection (1), the Regulator or the authorised officer must issue a prohibition notice to the registered social service provider which confirms the activity that the provider is prohibited from carrying on.
(3) A direction given under subsection (1) continues in force until—
(a) a prohibition notice is issued in respect of the activity prohibited by the direction; or
(b) the Regulator or the authorised officer certifies in writing that the activity prohibited by the direction is no longer prohibited.
