Barnett, MLA) Acts Amendment (Western Australia Day) Bill 2008 A Bill for An Act to amend the Public and Bank Holidays Act 1972 and the Minimum Conditions of Employment Act 1993. The Parliament of Western Australia enacts as follows: Preamble Whereas: A. The 1st of June in 1829 was the day when the first European settlers, under the command of Captain James 5 Stirling RN, Lieutenant Governor, arrived from Britain to settle the Swan River Colony; and B. Foundation Day, held on the first Monday of June each year, is an important celebration of this event for Western Australians; and 10 C. Foundation Day acknowledges our indigenous people as the original inhabitants of the land and unites all who have made Western Australia their home, page 1 Acts Amendment (Western Australia Day) Bill 2008 Preamble it is, 180 years later, now appropriate that Foundation Day be known as Western Australia Day. page 2 Acts Amendment (Western Australia Day) Bill 2008 Preliminary matters Part 1 s. 1 Part 1 -- Preliminary matters 1. Short title This Act may be cited as the Acts Amendment (Western Australia Day) Act 2008. 5 2. Commencement The provisions of this Act shall come into operation on 1 June 2009. page 3 Acts Amendment (Western Australia Day) Bill 2008 Part 2 Public and Bank Holidays Act 1972 amended s. 3 Part 2 -- Public and Bank Holidays Act 1972 amended 3.
