The first annual AFR / Telstra Australian Internet Awards acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of Australian talent and expertise on the Internet... Twenty two of the Awards ... are open to public nomination and will be judged by panels of industry experts. The 23rd Award - for the Most Popular Australian Web Site - will be decided by a public vote.' Nominations and votes can be lodged from the Australian Internet Awards web site, on forms printed in The Australian Financial Review and available from Telstra Shops or printed in internet.au in the August 1996 issue. AustLII's continuing viability is dependent upon our demonstrating to our funding sources and sources of data how highly AustLII's services are valued by our users. If you feel that we deserve nomination in the awards, then we would appreciate your taking the few minutes necessary to lodge a nomination - and the more users who nominate us the better! This is a simple, costless, public way for our users to demonstrate that they value the free public legal information that AustLII provides. AustLII is difficult to categorise, as there is no 'Law Site' category. Of the 21 award categories, it seems to us that those most appropriate to AustLII would be Community and/or Special Interest Site; Commercial Site; Government Site; Industry Sector Site; Professional Services Site; or Tertiary Education Site. All encouragement received gratefully ... ------------------------------ JULY AUSTLII STATS SUMMARY 420,000 pages of HTML (approx.) 11,959,000 hypertext links 2,253 MB of indexed text 489,190 'hits' in July 38,000 'sessions' in July 1878 peak daily users 96 peak concurrent users 26,880 peak daily requests ------------------------------ Please feel free to distribute 'News from AustLII' either electronically or in print form.
